'Design Masterpiece' Housing, block A5, Seoul Gangnam District.
This competition for Seoul Gangnam District is an initiative by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (KLHC) with the objective of providing affordable public housing for low income families. With the focus of providing an excellent design for a new public housing prototype in Korea, considerations into diverse lifestyles, income levels, and household types are taken also.
The objectives of the competition are:
- to introduce the newest and most refined public housing design to the Korean public housing practice
- to create and demonstrate a new public housing prototype for the low-income people to enjoy not only economically but with pride and dignity.
- to strive for the highest quality in design and environmental sustainability.
- to enhance social coherence of citizens in a low cost housing neighbourhood
We strongly believe that despite its peripheral location the "Seoul Gangnam District Design Masterpiece Housing" project can be a real neighbourhood; a community which is connected to Seoul but largely self-sufficient. In this proposal we have endeavoured to create a masterplan which forms an environment conducive to the formation of a community.
Creating a community requires that residents are interconnected with one another and are empowered with a sense of ownership and pride of place. Only by fostering these qualities can one hope to create a truly vibrant and self-sufficient neighbourhood.
