Killing Architects wins New Generations film competition on the future of architectural practice

In the ongoing discussion of the future of the architectural profession, New Generations has announced the Rotterdam-based firm Killing Architects as the winner of their first competition.

During the Call for Entries, all architects and creatives under 40 were invited to submit short films that show innovative forms of architectural practice and their own interpretation of the shifting role of the architect -- in both a construction industry and societal context.

"Killing Architects' winning response talked about the profession shifting from a focus on building to a focus on the built environment and how the greatest challenges for young offices related not to the economic crisis, but on developing a body of ideas that would sustain their practice throughout its lifetime. These things are reflected in the practice's work, which includes not only architectural design and the development of urban strategies, but also a wider engagement in issues within the built environment, through research, exhibitions, films and events. Recent projects exploring the way that humanitarian agencies work in cities post-disaster, or looking at financial models for projects making use of temporarily vacant sites and buildings exemplify this approach."
