Results of Downtown Fargo: An Urban-Infill Competition

By Bustler Editors|

Thursday, Dec 16, 2010

Detail from one of the two First-Place ties, "ebb and flow"

Two First Prizes have been given at the "Downtown Fargo: an urban-infill competition", an international, conceptual urban ideas competition for Fargo, North Dakota. The challenge, sponsored by Fargo-based developer Kilbourne Group, was open to architects, designers, engineers, landscape architects, and students and asked to envision an exceptional multi-use space that accommodates retail, residential, parking, office, and civic space. The space needed to convey the energy of “live, work and play” in Downtown Fargo.

The jury also picked a Second-Place winner, as well as three Honorable Mentions. Three projects received People's Choice Awards.

All entries are currently being displayed at a public gallery exhibit at The Loretta Building (208 Broadway) in Downtown Fargo, ND through December 18. Additionally, thumbnail versions of the entries can be viewed at the competition’s Flickr gallery.

These are the winning entries:

Tie for 1st Place: “ebb and flow” by Nakjune Seong and Sarah Kuen, South Lake, TX
Tie for 1st Place: “Fargo 365” by David Witham, Doug Meehan, Anna Ishii and Hannah Mattheus-Kairys, Philadelphia, PA
2nd Place: “Vertical Plain” by Helenske Design Group, Fargo
Honorable Mention: “More Broadway” by Russel Collin, Calgary, AB
Honorable Mention: “Icon” by Ty Greff, Santa Fe, NM
Honorable Mention: “Seed” by: Ted L. Wright, Phoenix, AZ
