SPONTANEOUS call for drawings. Participate in the collective atlas of spontaneous architecture

By Sponsor|

Wednesday, Dec 7, 2016

Take part in SPONTANEOUS: the collective atlas about architectural elements of spontaneous constructions. The open call will gather selected drawings to be published in 2017! It is intended to provide a partial list of architectural cliché, built for immediate needs. Each drawing will be credited to the author, who will participate to a collective system of knowledge exploring the self-made constructions' spread over our territories. The atlas will be divided into four categories: enclosure, decoration, structure, technological system.

Extended guidelines here

Deadline: 21.12.16

Here you can find some FAQ:

Q: Do we have to present an existing built example of such a condition?

A: SPONTANEOUS is aimed at producing a collective atlas of architectural elements from spontaneous constructions. For this reason, each submitted element should represent a larger field of that typology. Referring to an existing specific case or a hypothetical configuration, one should be able to address to its geographical and cultural milieu.

Q: In the guidelines you mention an attached layout which does not exist.

A: We do not have a graphical layout since it will depend on the submissions. Please just follow the drawing guidelines and requests, our atlas will use a portrait orientation.

Q: I do not understand the drawing scale that you mention (1unit=1mt). Do you mean 1:1 ?

A: The 1m/1unit scale is referred to the digital drawing since we will adapt the scale of the element to the canvas, on a second stage, when editing the publication.

Q: Besides the front view, top view and side view, could we submit other visual material? Like photograph, collage or sketch?

A: Line drawn views are compulsory for the submission; selected elements will be part of the collective atlas. We welcome any other type of material (photos, collages, texts) that will be eligible to be published on our online page and social, credited to the author/s.
