Fentress Architects to design USA Pavilion for World Expo 2020 in Dubai

Colorado-based Fentress Architects has been selected to design the USA Pavilion for the 2020 World Expo to be held in Dubai, the first Middle Eastern city selected to host the event in the Expo's 160-year history. The U.S. Department of State, responsible for our participation in international exhibition, has chosen the firm to work alongside Big Things Group, who will oversee fundraising, project management, construction and disassembly, to deliver the winning design.

Not-yet-revealed, the project is based on the theme “What Moves You” and will highlight American culture, leading technological revolutions in mobility, and much more. It will create a powerful metaphor for the dynamism of American culture and values of ingenuity, progress, and innovation. With over 25 million visitors expected at the Expo, the pavilion will build upon Fentress' experience in the region where their “Dancing Sisters” mixed-use towers opened in 2012.

“Working across the U.S. has given Fentress Architects diverse perspective on the attributes and attitudes that Americans share. We will coalesce these characteristics into a single architectural expression at Expo 2020 Dubai, representing the entirety of the U.S. and its design prowess to an international audience,” said Curtis Fentress, principal in charge of design at Fentress Architects.

Yet another snoozefest choice by America. There are lot of avant-garde young architects here, and you had to choose a mediocre corporate behemoth. Huge Fail.

I have heard this guy talk before, and his process is quite literally: "I saw a wave so I made a wave".

I wonder what this one is: I saw a flower so I made a flower?  I saw some gems so I made some gems?
