The annual 'best architects award' competition just revealed the winning projects and designers in recognition of new outstanding architecture across Europe. Now in its twentieth edition, this year's jury chose a total of 89 projects for awards and selected eight of them for the Gold Award distinction.

Building designs and architects from Zürich, Switzerland, fared particularly well, with five of the eight Gold Awards going to them. Mathis & Kamplade Architekten even managed to pick up two of the coveted trophies in the Residential Multi-Family category alone. Other countries represented among the overall prize winners include Germany, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy, Spain, and France.

The award organizers applauded qualities of resource conservation, reuse, social context, and durability in the latest winning designs.

Usually like European architecture, and a couple here are nice, but half of these look pretty dismal / soul crushing...

I'm guessing the jury panel just 'happened' to be Swiss?
