Snazzy interiors that fuse work and play is nothing new in corporate office design these days, but it wouldn't make sense for a company like the LEGO Group to not follow suit. Recently, the LEGO Group teamed up with fellow Danish natives C.F. Møller Architects and consulting engineers Niras in the designing and landscaping of their new office headquarters in Billund — LEGO's hometown in Jutland, Denmark.

The complex is designed with the LEGO Group's collaborative culture in mind, aiming to reflect their ongoing mission to "invent the future of play", as described by C.F. Møller Architects partner and CEO Klaus Toustrup.

Read on for more about the project.

The new 52,000 m² office complex and its large public park would offer a flexible framework of spaces for work and play for LEGO's more than 4,000 Billund-based employees. And of course, since this project is in Denmark, the headquarters will be specifically designed to let in ample natural lighting and be equipped with sustainable, low-energy consumption elements.

Inside, the building will be decked out with vibrantly colored office spaces and a central atrium, and the ground floor will feature a shared facility called the LEGO People House.

As an integral part of the building, the LEGO People House will host various social activities that LEGO employees from around the world and their guests can all enjoy.

“LEGO People House creates a unique social environment that serves as a vibrant, global gathering point, not only for the employees working there on a daily basis but also for the many LEGO employees from the rest of the world, when they visit Billund. It will house exciting facilities, where employees can be physically active and socialize, both during and outside working hours,” states LEGO Group Senior Vice President Claus Flyger Pejstrup, who is also responsible for the LEGO Group Headquarters in Denmark.

“The new complex will be the place where disciplines meet, experiences are exchanged, new ideas are born, and inspiration is encouraged. Along with its embracing landscape, the project embodies the feel, flavour and function of the classic campus” says C.F. Møller's Klaus Toustrup. “Working closely with LEGO and their staff, we have made sure that the project is all about openness, quality and all-round sustainability – all of them core LEGO values...LEGO's vision is to invent the future of play, and we have emphasized this in an architecture designed as a place for collaboration and play.”
